MOODS (2021-2024)
“MOODS” represents a transitional phase for Ivancovich, who drew on his background in fashion photography to make his first foray into portraiture. A range of high and low influences – including Pierre et Gilles, Guy Bourdain, Steven Meisel, and Marilyn Monroe’s shoot in the first edition of Playboy – animate this series of over forty prints, which in large part celebrate male beauty and, in the artist’s own words, invert the male gaze into a ‘gayze’. An exercise in unapologetic queer joy, models sit before backgrounds which transform mundane domestic materials – such as cellophane, aluminium foil, shirts, AstroTurf and candy bars – into landscapes of kitsch wonder. A strictly limited series of ten prints per shot.
